Prayers
The Power of Prayer
Prayer is a means of communicating with God. Prayer enables us to get access to God anytime. Through prayer, we can talk to God and tell him what we want. We can connect with him in spirit.
There is power in prayer because you can only go to God through prayer. Since we can’t reach him directly it’s only through prayer that we access him. The Bible records how the prophets spoke to God through prayer. Hannah in the book of Samuel was able to get a child after a long time through consistent prayer.
It’s a very popular fact that there is power in prayer. There is no doubt about the power of prayer, prayer is the only solution we have to solve our problems. The more we pray the closer we are to God and the higher the chances of getting answers to our prayers. According to the scripture, the power of prayer is in the power of God and his ability to answer prayers and work wonders.
The power of prayer is found in the following scriptures:
1) Psalm 18:6 “The Lord God Almighty hears the prayers of His children. He commands us to pray, and He promises to listen when we do. “In my distress, I called to the LORD; I cried to my God for help. From his temple he heard my voice; my cry came before him, into his ears”.
2) Luke 18:1 “The Lord God Almighty invites His people to pray to Him. Prayer to God should be made persistently”.
3) Psalm 17:6). “The Lord God Almighty answers prayer. “I call on you, O God, for you will answer me”.
4) Psalm 34:17 “The righteous cry out, and the LORD hears them; he delivers them from all their troubles”.
Your faith in God will determine if your prayers will be answered or not. Although God still answers prayers irrespective of our unfaithfulness. In the book of Acts 12:5, the church prayed for Peter to be set free from prison.” Peter, therefore, was kept in prison: but prayer was made without ceasing of the church unto God for him”.and God eventually answered their prayer. Verse 7 says “And, behold, the angel of the Lord came upon him, and a light shined in the prison: and he smote Peter on the side, and raised him, saying, Arise up quickly. And his chains fell off from his hands”.
The power of prayer is not in the special words we pray or the time or place we stay to pray. It doesn’t come from us, nor does it come from the way we speak. The effectiveness of prayer doesn’t come from some special materials or what you use while praying. The power of prayer comes from the father who is the author and finisher of our faith. Prayer draws us closer to God, we have contact with God through prayer.
We should also expect to receive tremendous answers. No matter what we are praying for, God is the only one that will provide answers to our prayers. He is omnipotent and the God that answers prayers nothing is difficult for him.
How to connect from the power of prayer.
The power is not in our ability to pray very well but in the power of God to answer prayer and grant our requests. The book of 1 John 5:14-15 says “And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask anything according to his will, he heareth us, And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him”. It doesn’t matter who is praying, what is important is God answering the prayer. God only answers prayers that are by his will. If he doesn’t deem it fit then he won’t answer your prayer.
So before we ask we must be sure that what we ask is according to the will of God. We might not get the exact answers but what God gives us is in our best interest. When our request conforms to God’s will we understand how he works and if we pray earnestly and sincerely he will answer us?
You can’t draw from the power of prayer without understanding the will of God. The answers we receive are not because of our well-composed prayer points. God is not a man that needs an eloquent speaker or a well-composed prayer points with grammar before he answers. God doesn’t even like repeating prayers. Also, don’t try to impress God with your speech while praying, he doesn’t need it.
You don’t need long prayer points before God will Answer. Matthew 6:7-8 says “for they think they will be heard because of their many words. Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him”.
Prayer is all about communicating with God. Yours is to ask while he answers. Psalm 107:28-30 says “Then they cry unto the LORD in their trouble, and he bringeth them out of their distresses. He maketh the storm a calm so that the waves thereof are still. Then are they glad because they be quiet; so he bringeth them unto their desired haven”.
What Should I Pray for?
There are no specifics on what to pray for, before you make a request God already knows your intention.
Philippians 4:6-7 reminds us, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” Matthew 6:9-13 is a good example of how to pray but you are not restricted to the prayer alone, you are free to add your private intentions.
Mathew 6:9-13 contains the lord’s prayer which teaches us to pray after this manner therefore pray ye: “Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name”.
The Lord’s prayer is a prayer guide to teach us how to pray, not just for us to memorize. It teaches us how to pray devotedly and how to worship and present our requests according to the way he has thought us. So you are to make your prayer points in this manner.
The Bible gives account of the power of prayer in different cases. The power of consistent prayer helps to overcome the trap of the enemies. We are able to conquer the devil and defeat their evil plans against us. Through prayer, we receive our healing, answers to our requests, support from God, wisdom, power, salvation, and freedom from satanic attack.
You should never underrate the power of prayer because you attract grace and blessings from the power of the sovereign God. Daniel 4:35 says “And all the inhabitants of the earth are reputed as nothing: and he doeth according to his will in the army of heaven, and among the inhabitants of the earth: and none can stay his hand, or say unto him, What doest thou?”.
